2009년 6월 8일 로마 카피톨리노 미술관 (Museo Capitolino). 여행을 하루 앞두고 마지막으로 찾아간 이 곳은, 고대 로마 유적 전체가 한 눈에 내려다 보이는 위치에 도시 전체에서 찾을 수 있는 가장 화려하고 우아한 작품들만을 모아 놓은 것 같은 사치를 자랑했다. 살짝 비가 내리고 있던 야외 전시실에서 본 거대한 두상. 눈은 아직 살아있다.
어떤 다른 말이 필요하겠는가!
2009년 12월 25일 크리스마스날 언니와 함께 갔던 클래시콰이의 공연. 조명이 음악과 무척 잘 어울리고 훌륭했다.
2009년 7월 31일 부모님과 함께 갔던 양평 ‘산당’의 게 요리. ‘산당’은 임지효 요리사가 수채화 같은 요리를 보여주시는 곳이다.
반찬 하나 하나가 다 정갈했다. 벽에 걸려있던 어느 말레이시아 작가가 그렸다는 모자상도 매우 맘에 들었다.
2008년 7월 19일 샌프란시스코의 한 음악 축제.
한 아주머니가 일어나 춤을 추기 시작했다.
그리곤 곧 모두가 동참했다. 샌프란시스코라는 도시의 미덕을 느낄 수 있었다.
2009년 5월 9일 난지도 Seoul World DJ Festival. 주류 반입이 안된다는 규정 때문에 들고 온 Chateauneuf du Pape은 맥주컵에 담겨 몰래 반입되는 신세가 되었다.
2010년 5월 6일 쿠알라룸푸르 한 인도 식당의 이름 모를 닭고기 요리. 하나 이상은 먹기 힘들었던 초록 닭의 힘!
I was with my friends and colleagues near the city hall last night before the big game and i wanted to know what kind of pre-game conversations were going on on Twitter. So, I finally entered the new and singular world of Tweeting. And guess what? I got hooked.
One of the famous persons that I’ve decided to follow(I hate this word ‘follow‘ btw) was Cory Booker, the mayor of Newark, New Jersey. I recently knew about what an incredible person he is from watching a documentary called “Brick City” on Sundance channel (which by the way is filled with ground-breakingly good programs but I’ll get back to this in a different post). This documentary is about how this young mayor and some ordinary citizens of the city of Newark are now changing one of the most troublesome cities in the US (maybe even in the world) to ‘a better, safer, stronger place to live’ against great odds. What’s happening in front of the cameras are now and real and it was one of the most inspiring stories that I’ve seen on TV in a long time.
I read some of his recent tweets and out of curiousity (and despite my general shyness), talked to him:
And guess what? It took less than 10 minutes for me to get an answer from Mayor Cory Booker!
And now, he’s even following me on Twitter!
I don’t know whether this is what usually happends in Twitter, but I think I’ll be tweeting for a while.

This book is whimsical, weird, dangerous and fun in all kinds of ways that I admire.
I’ve just finished reading it and I can say that this was one of the most fun I had reading a book.
“Can a modern married couple make it through the day without straying more than 15 feet apart? Writers David Plotz and Hanna Rosin give it a try, inspired by an Arizona Buddhist couple.”
아무리 부부라지만 반경 4.6미터 이상 떨어지지 않고 생활하는 게 가능할까? 내가 즐겨듣고 좋아하는 Slate Magazine Political Gabfest의 진행자 중 한명인 David Plotz와 Slate와 The Atlantic Monthly 에서 기자로 활동하고 있는 Hanna Rosin 부부가 진행한 짧은 실험을 기록한 다큐멘터리이다. 비록 하루동안의 실험이지만 쉽지는 않았을 이 경험에 대해 Hanna Rosin이 하는 말 중 하루종일 서로가 무엇을 하는 지(때로는 지나치게 사소한 것 까지)를 알기때문에 평상시 습관적으로 던졌던 “오늘 하루 어땠어?” 라는 바보 같은 질문을 하지 않게 되었다고 하는 것이 가장 인상적이었다.
이건 다른 얘긴데 Slate Political Gabfest 도 그렇고 KCRW의 Left, Right & Center도 그렇고 정치에 대한 토론(을 빙자한 수다) 프로그램은 주로 세 명의 패널로 진행되는 경우가 많은 것 같다. Left, Right & Center 처럼 좌,우, 중도의 세 스펙트럼을 뚜렷이 대변하는 경우도 있지만 Slate Political Gabfest도 보면, 결코 정치적인 입장차이가 크지 않은 세 사람이라도 각자의 관심분야와 흥미에 따라 1)이슈를 제기하는 자, 2)그 이슈에 적극적인, 때로는 극단적인 찬성 또는 반대 입장을 전개하는 자, 3)대화를 마무리하고 이슈를 정리하는 자 의 세 역할을 돌아가며 맡게 되는 듯 하다. 단순한 정/반이 아닌 정/반/정 혹은 정/반/합의 과정을 통해 어떤 결론을 도출하거나 입장차를 정리하기에는 세 명의 패널이 가장 효과적일 수 있겠다는 생각이 든다.
podcast 이야기가 나와서 하는 말인데, 왜 한국 iTunes에서는 podcast를 지원하지 않는 것일까? 아무도 podcast를 만들지 않고 있어서? 혹은 어떤 법률적인 제한때문에? 기회가 된다면 뜻 맞는 친구들을 모아 우리나라판 Political Gabfest 를 만들어 보고 싶다. 너무 부담스러운 건 말고 우리가 아는 범위 안의 정치, 혹은 정치가에 대한 감상이나 의견이면 족하다. 기자도 아니고 전문가도 아닌 그냥 이 시대를 사는 젊은이들로서 말이다. 우선 내 주위의 정말 다양한 정치적 스펙트럼을 그냥 내버려두기가 너무 아깝다. 그런 작업을 통해 그 전까지 알지 못했던 사람들과 소통하는 것도 재밌을테고, 개인적인 기록으로도 나중에 좋은 감상거리가 될 텐데 말이다.
